Using Canon PIXMA MG5720 Wireless Printer Setup with Direct Connection

Direct connection allows you to print or scan by connecting the machine to a device such as a smartphone or tablet via wireless connection in an environment where a wireless router is not available. In addition, you can connect the machine to a device without a wireless router even where it is available.

This section describes following operations for direct connection.
  • Changing settings of the machine and device and connecting them wirelessly
  • Preparing for Direct Connection
  • Change settings below to prepare for direct connection.

Changing PIXMA MG5720 Wireless Printer settings

  1. Make sure machine is turned on.
  2. Select Setup on HOME screen.
  3. LCD and Operation Panel
  4. Select Device settings and press OK button.
  5. Use UPDOWN button to select LAN settings and press OK button.
  6. Use UPDOWN button to select Change LAN and press OK button.
  7. Use UPDOWN button to select Activate direct connect. and press OK button.
  8. Use UPDOWN button to select Yes and press OK button.
The identifier (SSID) for direct connection appears.
When a device detects the Canon MG5720, the device detects the machine by the identifier (SSID).
If you press the right Function button, select Yes and press the OK button, the following items appear.
  • Security setting
  • Password
  • Canon PIXMA MG5720 name which appears on a Wi-Fi Direct compatible device
The password is required when connecting a device to the machine. Depending on the device you are using, no password is required.When you connect a Wi-Fi Direct compatible device to the PIXMA MG5720 select the device name displayed on the LCD from your device.
The identifier (SSID) and the security setting are specified automatically. To update them, see below.

  1. The direct connection is enabled and a wireless communication device can be connected to the Canon PIXMA MG5720 wirelessly. Changing settings of a wireless communication device and connecting it to the Canon
  2. Before connecting a device, we recommend you check the identifier (SSID) and the password for the direct connection.
  3. To check the identifier (SSID) and the password, display them on the operation panel of the machine or print out the network setting information of the machine.

Canon MG5720 Wireless Setup Printing Direct Network

  1. Turn on wireless communication on your device.
  2. Enable "Wi-Fi" on your device's "Setting" menu.
  3. For more on turning on wireless communication, see your device's instruction manual.
  4. Select "DIRECT-XXXX-MG5700 series" ("X" represents alphanumeric characters.) from list displayed on device.
  5. Enter password.
  6. Your device is connected to the machine.
Depending on the device you are using, entering the password is required to connect a device to the machine via wireless LAN. Enter the password specified for the machine.
  1. If your Wi-Fi Direct compatible device is set to prioritize using Wi-Fi Direct and it is connecting to the machine, the machine displays a confirmation screen asking if you allow the device to connect to the machine.
  2. Make sure the name on the LCD is the same as that of your device, select Yes, and then press the OK button.
  3. Printing/Scanning with Direct Connection
  4. Connect a device and the machine with direct connection and start printing/scanning from the device.

Terminating Direct Connection

In environments that the Canon PIXMA MG5720 wireless printer setup is usually connected with the computer over the wireless LAN, setup Canon PIXMA MG5720 to the wireless LAN connection following the procedure below when you finish using the machine with the direct connection temporarily.
  1. Select Setup on HOME screen.
  2. LCD and Operation Panel
  3. Select Device settings and press OK button.
  4. Use UPDOWN button to select LAN settings and press OK button.
  5. Use UPDOWN button to select Change LAN and press OK button.
  6. Use UPDOWN button to select Activate wireless LAN and press OK button.
If you do not use the machine over wireless LAN, select Disable LAN.

Changing Direct Connection Setting

Change the settings for the direct connection following the procedure below.
Make sure machine is turned on.
  1. Select Setup on HOME screen.
  2. LCD and Operation Panel
  3. Select Device settings and press OK button.
  4. Use UPDOWN button to select LAN settings and press OK button.
  5. Use UPDOWN button to select Other settings and press OK button.
  6. Use UPDOWN button to select Direct connection settings and press OK button.
  7. Use UPDOWN button to select an item and press OK button.
To update the identifier (SSID) and the password for direct connection
  1. Using the UPDOWN button to select A and pressing the OK button displays the confirmation screen. To update the identifier (SSID) and the password, select Yes and press the OK button.
  2. To check the security setting and the updated password, press the right Function button select Yes on the screen displayed next and press the OK button.
  3. To change the machine's name displayed on the Wi-Fi Direct compatible device
  4. Using the UPDOWN button to select B and pressing the OK button displays the screen to specify the device name.
  5. Follow the procedure below to change the name.
  6. Press OK button.
  7. Enter device name (up to 32 characters).
  8. Press left Function button to finish entering device name.
  • To change the confirmation screen setting when a Wi-Fi Direct compatible device is connecting to the machine
  • Using the UPDOWN button to select C and pressing the OK button displays the confirmation screen.
  • If you want the machine to display the screen to inform you a Wi-Fi Direct compatible device is connecting to the machine, select Yes and press the OK button.
