Windows installation for HP LaserJet Pro M501 wireless network connection by downloading the software.
There are two methods for downloading the printer software. To access an automated installation tool that detects the computer operating system and HP printer model in order to download and install the most up-to-date printer software. Use the Product Support page to manually download and install the printer software.

Method one: Download the printer software 
The steps vary according to the type of control panel.There are two methods for beginning the wireless installation process using a 2-line control panel, the HP Installer and the Pushbutton method. HP recommends using the HP LaserJet Pro M501 Installer to establish the wireless connection; however, the Pushbutton method can also be used.

Method 1: Use the HP Installer to The Wireless Setup Installation Process

  1. Go to 123.hp.com/laserjet .
  2. When the Download your installation software screen displays, click Download.
  3. The computer downloads HP Easy Start.
  4. Follow the steps provided to download the printer software.

Method 2: Use the Pushbutton Method To Begin The Wireless Installation Process

  1.  Press the Wireless button.
  2. Open the Wireless On/Off menu.
  3. Select On.
  4. Return to the Wireless Menu and select Wi-Fi Protected Setup.
  5. Select Pushbutton.
Within 2 minutes of selecting Pushbutton, at the wireless router or access point, press the device discovery button to discover the printer.
Wait while the printer establishes a network connection.
On the printer control panel, press the OK button. Open the Network Setup menu, and then select Show IP Address.
  • If an IP address is listed, the network connection has been established. 
  • If an IP address is not listed, wait a few more minutes and try again.
  • Note the IP address for use during software installation. Example IP address: 192.168.0.1.

  2.     The computer downloads HP Easy Start.
  3.     Follow the steps provided to download the printer software.

Touchscreen Control Panels

    On the printer control panel, touch the Connection Information button.
    Open the following menus:
  •         Network Wi-Fi Off
  •         Settings
  •         Wireless Setup Wizard
The printer scans for available wireless networks and returns a list of network names (SSIDs).Select the correct network SSID from the list. If the SSID for the local network is displayed, touch Enter SSID, and then manually enter the network SSID.

When prompted for the type of network security, select the correct option for the local wireless network.
  • If the network uses WPA security, enter the WPA passphrase.
  • If the network uses WEP security, enter the WEP key.
Touch OK, and then wait while the printer establishes a network connection. Establishing the wireless network connection can take a few minutes.

    On the printer control panel, touch the Connection Information button. If an IP address is listed, the network connection has been established. If an IP address is not listed, wait a few more minutes and try again. Note the IP address for use during software installation. Example IP address: 192.168.0.1.

Method two: Download the printer software from the Product support page

Step one: Download the Printer Software

The steps vary according to the type of control panel.

Click a driver item to select it, review the driver details, and then click Download. The software downloads to the computer. Make a note of the folder location.
If the HP Installer does not open automatically, browse to the folder location and open the downloaded file. The file name ends in .exe.

Method 2: Use the Pushbutton method to begin the wireless installation process

  1. Press the Wireless button.
  2. Open the Wireless On/Off menu.
  3. Select On.
  4. Return to the Wireless Menu and select Wi-Fi Protected Setup.
  5. Select Pushbutton.
  6. Within 2 minutes of selecting Pushbutton, at the wireless router or access point, press the device discovery button to discover the printer.
  7. Wait while the printer establishes a network connection.

Step two: Use the HP Installer to complete the software installation process

  1. The HP Installer is made up of six parts. Complete all six parts to install the printer software.
  2. The HP Installer might ask to check online for the latest installation updates for the printer. 
  3. For the best installation results, HP recommends clicking Yes to let the installer check for and download updates.
Part one: Software Install
The Software Selection screen details the software to be installed.

 Select the software to install:
  1. To proceed with the recommended software installation, click Next.
  2. To customize the software to install, click Customize software selections. When the customized software selections are complete, click Next.
  3. To access additional support options and tools, click the More Options drop-down menus. Click Back to return to the Software Selection screen. The options include:
  4. Documentation: Download the User Guide, Readme file, and the Warranty and Legal Guide.
  5. Web Support: Access the Product Support page for the printer.
Read the installation agreements and settings documents, select I have reviewed and accept the installation agreements, and then click Next.
Part two: Prepare to install
  • A Preparing to install message displays
  • When Preparing to install is complete, click Next.
Part three: Connect the printer
  1. On the Connection Type screen, select Help me set up a first time wireless connection, and then click Next.
  2. Complete one of the following tasks to set up the wireless connection:
  3. Retrieve the wireless settings automatically
  4. Select Yes, retrieve the wireless settings on my computer, and then click Next.
Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Windows 7 only: When the Connect your Product now screen displays, verify that the printer is turned on, and then connect the USB cable from the printer to the computer.
  1. Wait while the installer detects the printer. When the process is complete, the Product has been connected successfully screen displays.
  2. On the Wireless Network(s) Found screen, select the wireless network from the list of available networks. Click Next.
  3. When the Successfully Configured Device screen displays, disconnect the USB cable from the printer and the computer.
  4. Retrieve the wireless settings automatically
  5. Select No, I will enter the wireless settings manually, and then click Next.
  6. Wait while the installer detects the printer. When the process is complete, the Product has been connected successfully screen displays.
  7. On the Wireless Network Setup screen, enter the Wireless network name (SSID), Security Type, and Security Key/Passphrase. Click Next.
  8. When the Successfully Configured Device screen displays, disconnect the USB cable from the printer and the computer.
Part four: Install
  • When the software installation is complete, a Your software has been successfully installed message displays.
  • On the Product Configuration screen, review the configuration options and change them if necessary. Click Next.
Part five: Configure the printer
  1. On the Enable HP Web Services screen, review the information about HP ePrint and HP Apps. Click Next.
  2. For more information about HP ePrint, see Setup HP ePrint via email.
  3. The HP Embedded Web Server (EWS) opens.
  4. If the Web browser displays a message indicating that accessing the website might not be safe, select the option to continue to the website. Accessing this website will not harm the computer.
Use the EWS to enable HP Web Services.

Part six: Complete
  • Click Finish to complete the installation process.
  • Windows® installation for a wireless network connection using the in-box CD
  • Step one: Use the in-box CD to open the HP Installer
  • The steps vary according to the type of control panel.
There are two methods for establishing the wireless connection using a 2-line control panel. HP recommends using Method 1; however, Method 2 can also be used.

Method 1: Use the HP Installer to begin the wireless installation process

Insert the printing system software CD into the CD-ROM drive. The software installer detects the language of the operating system, and then displays the main menu of the installation program in the same language.
If the installer program has not started after 30 seconds, complete these steps:
  1. On the Start menu, click the Run option.
  2. Type the following: X:\SETUP.EXE
  3. (where X is the letter of the CD-ROM drive).
  4. Click the OK button. The installer program starts.
  5. If the User Account Control dialog box opens, click Allow or Yes to continue.

Method 2: Use the Pushbutton method to begin the wireless installation process

  1.     Press the Wireless button
  2.     Open the Wireless On/Off menu.
  3.     Select On.
  4.     Return to the Wireless Menu and select Wi-Fi Protected Setup.
  5.     Select Pushbutton.
  • Within 2 minutes of selecting Pushbutton, at the wireless router or access point, press the device discovery button to discover the printer.

4. Install

5. Configure the printer

  • Click Next.
