Before scanning to computer on HP OfficeJet Pro 8710, make sure you have already installed the HP recommended printer software.
The printer HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 and computer must be connected and turned on.
In addition, on Windows computers, the printer software must be running prior to scanning.
You can use the HP printer software to scan documents into editable text. For more information, see Scanning documents as editable text.


To enable the scan to a computer feature (Windows)
If the printer is connected to the computer with a USB connection, for information wireless setup see open on this web. The feature for scanning to computer is enabled by default and cannot be disabled.
If you are using network connection, follow these instructions if the feature has been disabled, and you wish to enable it again.
  1. Open the HP printer software. For more information, see Open the HP printer software (Windows).
  2. Click Print, Scan & Fax , and then click Scan .
  3. Select Manage Scan to Computer.
  4. Click Enable.
To enable the scan to a computer feature (OS X)
The scan to a computer feature is enabled by default from the factory. Follow these instructions if the feature has been disabled, and you wish to enable it again.
  1. Open HP Utility.
  2. Under Scan Settings, click Scan to Computer.
  3. Ensure that Enable Scan to Computer is selected.

  1. Load your original print-side down on the scanner glass or print-side up in the document feeder.
  2. Open the HP printer software. For more information, see Open the HP printer software (Windows).

  4. Click Scan a Document or Photo .
  5. Select the type of scan you want and then click Scan .
  • Choose Save as PDF to save the document (or photo) as a PDF file.
  • Choose Save as JPEG to save the photo (or document) as an image file.

  1. Open HP Easy Scan.
  2. HP Easy Scan is located in the Applications folder.
  3. Click Scan .
  4. Choose the type of scan profile you want and follow the onscreen instructions.
Scan to a memory device

You can scan directly to a USB flash drive from the printer control panel without using a computer or the HP printer software provided with the printer. Do not remove the flash drive from the printer USB port while it is being accessed by the printer. This can damage the files on the USB flash drive. You can safely remove a USB flash drive only when the USB port light is not blinking. The printer does not support encrypted USB flash drives.You can also use the HP printer software to scan documents into editable text. For more information, see Scanning documents as editable text.

To scan an original to a memory device from the printer control panel
1. Load your original print-side down on the scanner glass or print-side up in the document feeder.
2. Insert a USB flash drive.
3. Touch Scan , and then select Memory Device.
4. Make changes to scan options, if needed.
5. Touch Start Scan .
